1. New Blog: New Fitting Screen in Apocrypha - in EVE Information Portal [original thread]
Recommended reading for all UI developers: The Design of Everyday Things . User interface really should put user usability above all other things. I can appreciate many of the design goals, but the priority of usability seems to have been forgot...

2. New Blog: New Fitting Screen in Apocrypha - in EVE Information Portal [original thread]
Originally by: Ferria Ok, I like the new system. I like not having to open a new widow to select my fittings. I like it telling me which modules are online. I like being able to see my Ship while fitting it. Did you guys read the blog o...

3. New Blog: New Fitting Screen in Apocrypha - in EVE Information Portal [original thread]
You know, having read a bit more of this thread and taken a bit more time to consider how I really feel about the new fitting screen, I pretty much agree with everything this man had to say. You've committed an atrocity against gameplay, if you wa...

4. New Blog: New Fitting Screen in Apocrypha - in EVE Information Portal [original thread]
Honestly, the new screen feels unwieldy and unpolished. I won't bother listing the actual UI bugs, since those are fairly obvious and I'm sure people are already working on correcting them. Instead, I will focus on aspects of design which I find ...

Originally by: Marcus Gideon The collision radius for the line of ships just becomes a general outline of that entire front line. Then you're not trying to plot against each and every single ship, you're plotting against the blob that they...

Originally by: Del Narveux 'F1-F8 and watch the show' Surely you mean 'F1 and watch the show', now that we have weapon grouping =P I would happily see missile damage increased in exchange for lower speed and proximity fuses. Although I...

8. fleet formations! hip new fresh ideas. - in Player Features and Ideas Discussion [original thread]
This would go really well with weapons collision , I'm of course thinking of the good old frigate lines and capital phalanxes of Homeworld 2. "This is not the boot you're looking for."

Originally by: Hesod Adee This isn't a taxing calculation because it is complex to perform. It is a taxing calculation is because of the number of comparisons it will need to make. If you have n objects on grid, then when someone shoots it...

T2 ships aren't better, just different. I like the Nightmare over the Paladin for the tracking bonus, much as I wish that tracking bonus were instead a range bonus... "This is not the boot you're looking for."

13. Quick! Hide behing that (asteroid/station/battleship/etc)! - in Player Features and Ideas Discussion [original thread]
Simple bounding spheres could be used as a precursor test, but you really want to do a collision model test for this sort of thing. Otherwise, Iteron Mk Vs will be able to shield everything under a BS in size. Clever usage of spatial partitioning...

To all those pointing out $50 video card upgrades: Most laptops don't have upgradable video cards. I have a 2007/2008 laptop that doesn't support SM3; it wasn't a low end laptop when I got it, it just wasn't a portable gaming machine. Sure, I ...

Edited by: Jach Wong on 14/01/2009 16:15:20 Honestly, I would love to see a bare-minimum client that used only lines for graphics and form textboxes. Sure, the graphics enhance the game, but they aren't the game. All you need are crosses for ...
